Massage is a tool to help heal. Whether it's stress, illness or simply to pamper yourself, the benefits of massage can be life changing. I would be honored to take that journey with you.

What To Expect During Your Therapeutic Massage

What To Expect During Your Therapeutic Massage

An initial session usually takes a minimum of 1.5 to 2 hours as this session will include case history taking and an initial assessment prior to starting your personalised treatment.

Subsequent treatments can range between 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours. The length of the session mentioned is an average treatment length our current clients prefers however your therapist will discuss this with you to ensure the treatment length is convenient to you.

During your treatment, our therapist will request that you disrobe down to your underwear. You will be draped well during your treatment with the only part exposed being the area treated at the time.
Please note while we will take all care to avoid getting massage oil on your garment, we can't guarantee that it will be oil-free.

There are certain conditions that will prevent us to treat you. They are:

• Nausea
• Cancer - only with doctor or professional health advice
• After recent surgery, whiplash or other serious injury (wait up to 3 months post injury/surgery)
• Fever or high temperature
• Cold or flu - massage can make it worse in the short term
• After recent alcohol intake - preferably no alcohol 24 hours or at least 12 hours prior to your massage treatment. In the case of heavy alcohol intake, please allow 48 hours to lapse before your next treatment.
• Skin conditions such as eczema, burns or sores, allergy, etc. must be notified to us at time of booking.

After Your Massage

Alberto'sTherapeutic Massage encourage detoxification in your body. We would recommend that you refrain from drinking alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee for at least 12 hours immediately after your treatment, or if possible for 24 hours immediately after your treatment. For best result, increase your water intake to aid the detoxification process during this period. Filtered cool water (not chilled) will be best. Keep yourself warm for a few hours immediately after your treatment. Tingling feeling on any part of your body that was treated is normal. Tingling will dissipate on its own and is no cause for concern. This means it is a good sign that you have your energy back into place and your body will function normally, which was previously stagnant is now moving as it should be.  If agreeable by you, your therapist can contact you 3 (three) days after your treatment to follow up on your condition but he/she will discuss this with you after your treatment. This is also a great opportunity for you to pass on any feedback regardless of the nature of the feedback. Alternatively, feel free to send an update on your condition via email after receiving your massage and also any feedback to robert.becada@gmail.com,   We always strive to improve our services for your satisfaction.

Enhance your Massage Experience

What To Expect During Your Therapeutic Massage

Enhance your Massage Experience

  • Have a hot/warm shower before your massage treatment. You’ll feel more relaxed.
  • You'll feel more comfortable if you don't eat for two hours before your session.
  • Draping will be employed for traditional massage.
  • Let your therapist know if you have any medical or physical conditions which might contraindicate certain types of treatment.
  • Remove any unnecessary jewelry that could cause scratching or interfere with having a smooth massage.
  • If you wear glasses or contact lenses, consider removing them. It may add to your relaxing experience.
  • If you're concerned about getting oil on your hair, inform your therapist. You won't want to miss out on a head massage!
  • Quieting yourself will allow you to tune in to your experience and relax more deeply.
  • Do give your therapist feedback regarding your experience and feel free to ask any questions you'd like.
  • Breathe deeply and regularly, stressing your exhalation. Imagine your body becoming heavy and sinking into the table or mat. As the therapist locates areas of tension, consciously allow yourself to breath and relax into those areas.
  • Sometimes during a massage or other type of treatment emotions will surface. It may be of great benefit to release and work through them if you feel comfortable doing so.
  • If you aren't comfortable with the Massage Therapist touching you, the treatment isn't going to help you regardless what techniques they use. Be sure to tell them if something makes you uncomfortable, and feel free to ask questions about anything they do. You should feel respected and honoured, and the session should provide opportunities for you to relax and get back in touch with yourself.
  • Remember that any MT needs to know if you are seeing another practitioner, in order to make sure the massage won't interfere. Many people don't know for instance that if they are taking drugs, even for chronic illnesses, their dosages will often need to be decreased if they regularly receive bodywork treatments.

Modesty: Dress Code

Please wear suitable swimsuit. Towels will be provided to wrap around yourself when you are not in the Ice Bath, Sauna or Hot Spa.  There will be clean towels for you to use to have a Hot shower.

  • Manage diabetes and heart disease

CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR HOT SPA:

The changes in heart rate during and after therapy may pose significant risks for people with cardiovascular conditions such as arrhythmia. Increased swelling and inflammation. Heat therapy is not recommended immediately after physical activity, after injury, or during an infection.

10 POWERFUL HOT SPA BENEFITS

1. IMPROVED SLEEP

When you spend the evening relaxing under the steamy water of your hot tub, your body temperature slowly rises.

Once you get out of the water and the air begins cooling down your body, your brain naturally signals that it’s time for sleep.

This will help you fall asleep much faster than usual.

2. REDUCE ANXIETY & STRESS

Stress and anxiety can wreak havoc on the body if left unmanaged for too long, significantly reducing the quality of your life.

Creating a personal space to escape the outside world can positively affect your mental health and can help provide an added feeling of safety when needed.

3. BETTER CIRCULATION
As you relax under the warm water, your blood vessels will expand, making it easier for your blood to move through your body.
This will help oxygenate your system more effectively and will allow the blood to move to the muscles that require it the most.

4. LESS INFLAMMATION
Our joints are under constant stress as they provide the support our bodies need to perform our daily tasks.
Your body weight will settle in your lower back, hips, knees, and ankles, compacting the joints, which can lead to inflammation.

5. PAIN RELIEF
Hot tubs promote pain relief in various areas, including headache relief, back pain relief, and even reduced pain experienced in those who suffer from fibromyalgia.

6. WEIGHT-LOSS
While it may seem odd that you could lose weight simply by spending time in a hot tub, it’s true!
The heat of the hot tub will increase your body temperature and will cause your heart to beat faster for a period of time.

7. FASTER RECOVERY
Heat and massage have been shown to positively affect the body's healing in multiple ways. This can be seen by the popularity of hot tubs, saunas, and hydromassage chairs being included in gyms across the country.
8. LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE
The effects warm water has on the body have been the focus of many studies over the years.
One that was completed in 2016 found that participants who bathed in warm water for extended periods of time experienced a drop in blood pressure.

9. INCREASED RANGE OF MOTION
Changes to your range of motion can be caused by various things, such as injury, age, or overly tight muscles.
As previously mentioned, hot tubs help release the tension in your body, relaxing muscles that have been flexed and tightened for extended periods of time.
10. RELAXATION!
Our world is busier than ever, with each day bombarding us with seemingly endless stressors and stimulation.
It’s essential that you find ways to include relaxation in your daily routine, and a hot tub can be a powerful tool to do so.

ICE BATH The health benefits

Muscle RecoveryIce baths help make repairing micro tears in muscles a faster process, so post-exercise recovery is quicker.Inflammation ReductionCold water immersion reduces the impact of inflammation on the body, making it beneficial for conditions like arthritis or post-injury recovery.Enhanced CirculationGoing into an ice bath initially constricts your blood vessels, but then through your ‘cold shock response’ your body sends out adrenaline, and this prompts the blood vessels to quickly dilate once again. This rapid change from constriction to dilation improves circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues.Boosted ImmunityRegular exposure to cold can strengthen the immune system, increasing resilience to illnesses.Stress ReductionThe release of endorphins during ice baths helps alleviate stress and anxiety, promoting mental well-being.Just a note before we move on. Ice baths may be something you’ll want to approach with a bit of caution the first time you do it – as while they do come with their benefits, they can definitely be a shock to the system!

What is an Infrared Sauna?

Unlike traditional saunas which heat the air around you, infrared saunas use invisible light waves to penetrate your body directly. These infrared waves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, like visible light and radio waves. Think of it this way – you feel the warmth of infrared light when you stand near a hot stove but you don’t see it.

Stay informed, take care of your body, and prioritize responsible practices for safe infrared sauna use. Remember, paying attention to how your body feels is essential. If you experience any unusual skin reactions after using an infrared sauna, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
There is no substantial scientific evidence to suggest that infrared saunas cause cancer, skin cancer, or melasma. However, as with any heat therapy, it's crucial to take precautions, such as avoiding prolonged or excessively hot sessions.
Infrared saunas may not be a safe choice for people with certain health conditions, and they can cause dehydration and blood pressure changes
Some of these studies were also performed with people using a regular sauna. On the other hand, no harmful effects have been reported with infrared saunas.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Experts also recommend against sauna usage for pregnant people. Always check with a healthcare provider regarding whether infrared saunas are right for you.  Saunas & Medications  Diuretics, barbiturates and beta-blockers may impair the body's natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics such as amitryptaline may inhibit sweating and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke.

Infrared Sauna Safety Tips

By: Alex Tyson

February 4, 2024

Before reading this article, please note that this information should not be seen as medical advice and that you should talk to your healthcare practitioners prior to lifestyle changes.

Embarking on a wellness journey can be both exhilarating and daunting. Among the myriad of options available, infrared saunas have gained significant popularity thanks to their profound health benefits. However, as with any wellness practice, understanding the nuances of infrared sauna safety is crucial. Found—Space is committed to guiding you through the safe and effective use of infrared saunas, ensuring your experience is both enjoyable and beneficial.

Unveiling the Science of Infrared Saunas

Before delving into safety aspects, it’s essential to comprehend how infrared saunas function. Unlike traditional saunas, which heat the air around you, infrared saunas use infrared panels to emit light that penetrates your skin. This process directly warms your body without significantly increasing the air temperature. The result is a more comfortable yet equally, if not more, effective sauna experience. The benefits are multifaceted, from detoxification and muscle recovery to improved circulation and skin rejuvenation.

Potential Risks and Misconceptions

Despite their many advantages, misconceptions about the safety of infrared saunas persist. One common concern relates to the nature of infrared rays. It’s important to clarify that these are not ultraviolet rays, which can cause skin damage. Infrared saunas use far-infrared light, a safe and therapeutic part of the light spectrum.

However, risks do exist if saunas are used improperly. Overheating, dehydration, and interference with medication are potential hazards. It’s also possible for users to experience lightheadedness or nausea, particularly if they stay in the sauna for too long or fail to hydrate adequately.

Precautions for Certain Individuals

Individual health conditions necessitate specific considerations when using an infrared sauna. Here are some infrared sauna safety tips for various groups:

  • Pregnant Women: The use of infrared saunas during pregnancy is generally not recommended. Due to the lack of research in this area and the potential risk of overheating and dehydration, it’s advised that pregnant women consult with their healthcare provider before using an infrared sauna.
  • Individuals with Heart Conditions: Those with cardiovascular conditions should exercise caution. The heat from the sauna can increase heart rate and lower blood pressure, which might not be suitable for some heart conditions. Consulting with a healthcare professional is crucial in these instances.
  • Children: The safety of infrared saunas for children hasn’t been studied thoroughly. Children’s bodies regulate temperature differently than adults, making them more susceptible to heat-related issues. Therefore, it’s generally recommended that children avoid sauna use or use it under strict adult supervision and for shorter durations.
  • Elderly Users: Older individuals should be cautious, especially if they have existing health conditions or take medications that affect blood pressure or heart rate. A shorter duration and lower temperature setting, coupled with medical advice, can make sauna use safer for this group.

Best Practices for Safe Sauna Use

To maximise the benefits and minimise risks, here are some general infrared sauna safety tips:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your sauna session to prevent dehydration.
  2. Limit Your Time: Start with shorter sessions (around 10-15 minutes) and gradually increase the duration as your body adapts. Once ready, we recommend sessions lasting 30-45 minutes.
  3. Mind the Temperature: Begin at lower temperatures and slowly increase to more comfortable levels. We typically recommend temperatures between 45°C and 55°C as higher temperatures are not necessary for effective sauna use.
  4. Listen to Your Body: If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or uncomfortable, exit the sauna immediately.
  5. Cool Down: After your session, be sure you rehydrate and take a cold shower (or even a cold plunge!) to activate cold shock proteins and hormesis.

Conclusion: Embracing Infrared Saunas Safely

Infrared saunas offer a plethora of health benefits, but their safe use is paramount. By understanding how they work, acknowledging potential risks, and adhering to specific precautions, you can safely incorporate infrared saunas into your wellness routine. Remember, each individual’s response to sauna therapy can vary, so it’s essential to listen to your body and consult healthcare professionals when needed.

Alberto's Therapeutic Masage Benefits

Alberto’s Therapeutic Massage

Alberto’s Therapeutic Massage

This kind of massage is a system of bodywork. It covers not just the muscles of the body but also the skeletal system and the subtle body energy systems. It has evolved from a combination of different styles from around the world that include Therapeutic massage, Deep tissue, Acupressure, Ayurvedic, Swedish, Hawaiian, Remedial, Hand and Foot reflexology. (Raynor’s massage) There are so many different massage therapy modalities out there; Thai Massage, Indian Head Massage, Chinese Massage, Shiatsu... and the list goes on and on. While they are all essentially good massage therapies, Alberto’s massage is different.
It covers not just the muscles of the body but also the skeletal system and the subtle body energy systems of the body. It has evolved from a combination of different styles from around the world that include Therapeutic Massage, Deep Tissue, Acupressure, Ayurvedic, Swedish, Hawaiian, Remedial, and Hand and Foot Reflexology.
The simple philosophy of Alberto’s Massage is to find every bit of tension in the body and get rid of it by applying a holistic treatment starting on the area where symptoms or tension are showing and find the source of the tension. We will also emphasise on certain important parts of the body that are often neglected by traditional massage therapists, such as the abdomen, the sacrum, the hips and the feet, hands and head. These areas tend to hold a lot of stagnation and blockage of the life force and freeing them up will generally have a great benefit not just to the areas concerned but to the whole being.

An important concept of Alberto’s Massage is that the source of some of the residual tension in the body can be emotional or stress related reasons. Residual tension means tension that is in the person’s body when the body is resting, for example on a massage table. In other words if a person has muscle tightness in an area when they aren’t using that area this is what we call residual tension and our goal is to get rid of this tension. Unless the corresponding emotion is also released, some tension will remain in the body. Alberto’s Massage will be able to release this tension by utilising its massage techniques, rhythms and encouraging clients to practice the breathing technique during treatments and to allow any emotions out that need to come out and to not hold them back.
Alberto’s massage is generally recognised as one of the most powerful and effective forms of massage therapy today. It goes well beyond the realm of what most people consider to be the confines of a massage treatment. We often put bones back into place and can help a lot of different emotional and psychological conditions.
In fact, for some people good massage may be very uncomfortable if they aren’t used to it, but then as their healing crisis finishes their body should feel a lot better, have more mobility and a general feeling of being more relaxed should ensue.
The word “relax” actually means to bring back to a state of looseness. “Re” means to bring back to and “lax” means loose. So Alberto’s massage is actually a form of deep relaxation massage.

Hi Rob,

I just thought I'd drop you a line to say a massive thank you for the ongoing health improvement that your massage gives my "mind and body". Just like a car I need the regular oil & grease and tune up. I feel and operate so much better after every massage.  Your knowledge and skilful application of a range of different massage techniques is amazing, effective and all done in a safe, professional and cheerful environment. I always look forward to my therapeutic full-body massage and feel revitalised afterwards. I now longer have the back problems that existed before meeting you. I am a very happy client who has been coming to you for quite some time now. Alberto’s Therapeutic Massage

After a lifetime of physical work and play, there have been times that I felt my body could take no more punishment and I would need to stop playing the sports that I love.

For the last few years I’ve been visiting Rob at Alberto’s Therapeutic Massage for regular two hour, full body deep tissue massages. For two hours every six weeks I benefit from Rob’s vast experience and magic touch. The combination of Rob’s warm personality, fantastically appointed studio, the array of aromatic oils and the soothing music, totally relaxes me and I usually find myself drifting away into a world of dreams. I enjoy the psychological benefits as much as the physical.

I am continuing to live the highly active life I enjoy and I have no doubt this is largely possible because of the massages I get at Alberto’s Therapeutic Massage.
